Gen.Camp CheckUp: The first rehabilitation Camp for Follow-Up assessment of children who affected by the profound psychological trauma of war and its consequences

In October this year, the Carpathians hosted Gen.Camp CheckUp — the first psychological rehabilitation format created by Gen.Ukrainian to conduct a follow-up assessment of children’s emotional well-being after completing the initial Gen.Camp psychoeducational intensive.
Half a hundred children who had experienced the loss of loved ones, forced displacement, or occupation returned to a safe space for recovery, where they could assess their progress together with specialists, track changes, and receive support that meets their current needs.
Participants demonstrated higher stress resilience, improved self-awareness skills, and greater openness to communication.
A Comprehensive Support
Program
Participation in Gen.Camp CheckUp included a wide range of activities and therapeutic practices aimed at strengthening psychological resilience:
  • individual and group sessions with psychologists;
  • group art therapy activities;
  • evening readings and reflection circles;
  • sports, play, and creative activities;
  • nvolvement of parents and caregivers as an essential part of the recovery process.
Throughout the camp, children learned skills for managing anxiety levels, developed stress-coping strategies, and improved communication and social skills. They also became more familiar with the resource-oriented stress-coping model BASIC Ph, which helps identify and activate personal internal resources.
An important element of the program was the “Strength Journal” — a self-regulation and daily reflection tool that helped children record emotions, observe their reactions, and recognize their own progress.
Looking
Ahead
Gen.Camp CheckUp became an important step in expanding Gen.Ukrainian’s model of work with children affected by the war. Follow-up assessment allows timely response to participants’ needs, program adaptation, and ensuring sustained rehabilitation outcomes.
