Gen.Ukrainian x Ministry of Internal Affairs: building resilience through memory and care

A working meeting was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the participation of State Secretary Inna Yashchuk and the founder of Gen.Ukrainian Oksana Lebedeva.

Together with representatives of security-focused lyceums, the discussion centered on a critical issue—how to support children who have lost loved ones due to the war.

We are working together to ensure that every child receives the support they need and has a safe space to process their grief.
For quite some time, Gen.Ukrainian has been implementing psychological support initiatives in the educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Since signing our Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry, we’ve carried out a number of joint programs with tangible results.
Thanks to the work of Gen.Ukrainian team, we’ve been able to conduct in-depth assessments of students' emotional states in MIA lyceums across Kyiv, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia. These insights have shaped new practices in how trauma, grief, and emotional resilience are addressed in educational process.

In Ukraine’s security-focused lyceums, some students are children of fallen, wounded, missing, or captured defenders. These are young people who live with deep personal trauma while continuing their education within a system that must now meet more than just academic needs.

So one of the most important shared outcomes is the integration of memorialization practices into the educational process — helping children process loss, honor their loved ones, and rebuild inner stability.

“We are convinced: the way a child experiences loss and how quickly they recover from trauma largely depends on the environment,” said Oksana Lebedeva, Chair of Gen.Ukrainian.
Children need spaces to grieve and remember. When there’s no access to a burial site, memorial spaces become essential for healing

We are proud of the institutional progress made during this partnership. This cooperation shows what becomes possible when civil society and state systems work together to protect the dignity, memory, and future of Ukraine’s youth. Because healing collective trauma begins with remembering those we have lost.
