The full-scale war has changed the childhoods of millions of Ukrainian children and triggered a profound crisis of childhood. Forced displacement, the loss of safety, and the collapse of familiar life have left deep marks. According to UNICEF (2025), most children show signs of psychological trauma, and nearly one in three teenagers is in need of professional care. Under these conditions, psychological support is not a luxury — it is a necessity.
This summer, the Gen.Ukrainian team held two psychological intensives for children whose parents were killed or went missing. Both Gen.Camps took place in the Carpathians — a space where children could finally experience the calm that had long been missing from their lives. For many participants, it was their first real opportunity to escape the constant threat: most of them live in regions that are regularly hit by missile strikes.
A total of 100 children — selected by Gen.Ukrainian psychologists from hundreds of applications — took part in the programs. Throughout the camps, they received both individual and group psychological support, participated in art therapy, memory evenings, sports activities, group exercises, and relaxation practices.
The children were also joined by special guests whose personal stories helped them find strength and grounding

Gen.Camp 10.0 was visited by Oleksandr Teren, a veteran and civic leader, and Andriy Bedniakov, a television presenter originally from Mariupol.

Gen.Camp 11.0 featured a special visit from Patron, a detection dog and mascot for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and Sasha Romantsova, human rights advocate and Executive Director of the Centre for Civil Liberties, the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

The Gen. Ukrainian psychological team noted that, even in a short period of time, children began to open up, talk about their grief and trauma. In other words — the healing had begun.
My child became more open, lighter. For the first time in a long while, I saw a smile that was real
shared the mother of one Gen.Camp participant
Gen.Ukrainian is not stopping here. We receive dozens of new applications every week. The war has left visible and invisible wounds — and both must be healed.

We will keep working to give every child a real chance to recover.
